Monday, November 15, 2010 "Holy Baptisms, Batman.."

Some days, you just can't get rid of a bomb!

But this week, it looks like we did; haha. 7 people got baptized and confirmed this week! It was great! Four of them were from Elder. Zadi's and my area, and the other three were from Elder. Bills'. The names are as follows:

Emmanuel Agezo - Contacted 9/9/10, Baptized 13/11/10, Confirmed 14/11/10, Ordained 14/11/10
Maxwell Odosu - Contacted 24/9/10, Baptized 13/11/10, Confirmed 14/11/10, Ordained 14/11/10
Patrick Kumor - Contacted 16/10/10, Baptized 14/11/10, Confirmed 14/11/10, Ordained 14/11/10
Sandra Adams - Contacted 17/10/10, Baptized 14/11/10, Confirmed 14/11/10

Then for Elder. Bills' (Beatrice Aboagye, Edward Anderson, Samuel Ennin)

Then we had a Child of Record, Papa Dadzie, who was baptized Sunday Morning (which happened to be his 8th birthday!). Due to schedule conflicts, we had two of our investigators baptized at that same time.  Confirmation took almost the entire sacrament meeting, as we did all 8 of them (7 inv + child of record) in sacrament that day. Bishop called Elder Zadi and I up to confirm our investigators, and then started calling Elder Bills and E. Cobbinah up for theirs, and then just started going around with the other people. He got to confirm Papa, which was awesome for him, since he was there when Papa was born, so he'd been looking forward to that for a long time (Papa's dad is in some other part of Ghana for work or something... that happens here, sadly) and finally got to do that. It was great; we were all exhausted when it was finally over with, though. Haha.

Sandra is Adams' daughter - one of three of his kids - and his son is following sometime this week. It's awesome, because Adams is a great member - he says hi every time we pass by his shop, and is always willing to drop everything and go on splits with us for a member present lesson or whatever we need. He's also sharing the Gospel with every single neighbor he has, and even took us on rounds around his house yesterday while we waited for the FM [free meal] to finish cooking. I'm so happy to see that his family is coming into the Gospel too; pretty soon, they should all be able to be sealed in the temple. His wife may be somehow hard, since she hardly speaks any English (only Twi, really) but I'm sure she'll come soon enough. We also got to meet his other daughter, and will be teaching her on Sundays (she's out of town all the other days for work, doesn't get back till after 2200), but she should follow soon as well. I'm so excited for them all!

Patrick is an awesome guy, too. He's very smart and is going to do great. He's 30 and owns some businesses, very dedicated in what he does. And, because of the businesses, he knows how to keep commitments and be dedicated, which he will certainly do in regards to the Gospel.

Maxwell is Adams' friend, and fellow tailor. He's a great guy; he's gone through some hard times. He doesn't have much, as far as wordly things go, but he's got faith and good commitment; I'm glad that he now has the Holy Ghost to help him in everything he does. He's also learning to speak 'big borofoɔ' (English) and is really enjoying that.

Emmanuel Agezo is a guy that we contacted a LONG time ago; somehow around the first or second week for me in the field. He was, and has been, one of my favorite investigators; he puts God in so much that he does, and gives Him credit for all things, and just loves God and Christ and the Gospel. The biggest problem was that he didn't fully understand the importance of coming to Church, and had a hard time leaving his job interviews (he's out of work) to come to Church instead. But he eventually did, and loved every minute of it - the members love the guy, too; haha - and is now utterly excited to go to Church every week. He asks great questions and has a true desire to feast upon the words of Christ and learn all that he can about the Gospel. With the Lord's help, he'll soon get a job and be able to take care of everything therein as well. I'm glad that he finally was able to go through with it all.

As for the rest of the week, these two baptismal services really WERE the week. The entire time this week was spent on splits for interviews, and running to Accra to get a few of them interviewed by the President. Accra, by the way, is about a 1 hr - 1:30 drive one-way from where we are, and costs a lot of money - somewhere around 8 GHc... which is a lot, here. Hopefully, things will calm down, and we'll be able to more properly coordinate everything so this kinda thing doesn't happen again the next time we have a lot of baptisms to deal with/ prepare for.

As for my Zone Interviews talk, I'll have that posted on Points of Ponder. It was only suppose to be 3-5 minutes, and I had to trim it down as it is, so don't expect some kinda big thing from it. It's more of a ramble, really, but Pres. said he enjoyed it, so I guess it was good enough; haha.

Well, that's about it. Sorry for nothing special as of insight, but it was a busy week. I'll post something maybe next week with more of that kinda stuff; I can't do both small detail and general insight in the same letter thing, so it seems; haha.

Anyway, know that I love this Gospel, it is True, and the Work is Great! I cannot stress how important it is that ALL men of the appropriate age go on a mission and experience those things the Lord has prepared for them. Go on a mission! Don't pass up that honor and privilege! Honestly, it's like God is giving you one of the greatest gifts of your eternal life, and you're slapping it to the ground in flat-out refusal! Just go and do!

Anyway (I say that a lot...), that's my shpeel. This Gospel is True and the Work is Great! I love you all; take care, and God bless!

PS: I have been incredibly hectic these last few weeks, but should be getting around to writing some letters back to people soon enough. I can't email anyone outside immediate family members, otherwise I would, and thus will get to writing the letters very soon. My apologies for how long it's taking.
