Monday, February 14, 2011 "I'm Gonna Be A Father..."

Yup! Pres. told me last Tuesday. I'm Training an Elder straight from the MTC this transfer, and probably next; training lasts at least 2 transfers, but they can sometimes move them to a new trainer mid-training, but it's not common. I had to go to Trainer's Council on Friday and learn how to do it. Basically, you pray, you be exactly obedient, and you wing it according to the Spirit; haha. Technically, you have certain goals you should write out and want to teach when he first gets in the field, you need to plan on setting a good example, and get him excited for the Work and recognize how blessed he is to be on this mission, but going about doing that is different for each person and for each trainer, so you kinda have to just go with it; haha.

On another note, things are really going well here. When I first got here, we were getting 1, maybe 2 people to Church; last three weeks, it's been 4, 8, and 9! We got 9 people to Church yesterday! I'm so happy about that. Even better is that we're teaching two families right now! I've never been able to teach a whole family; normally it's just been one or two at a time, if even that. But we have two families we're teaching, and I believe they'll be ready for baptism in March! I'm so blessed to have the opportunity to work with these families (the Cotey Family and the Brown Family); it's such a wonderful experience to see them progress together, and come to Church together. I'm also happy, cause that means that the new Elder should be blessed with two family baptisms his first transfer here! And even more, that's in Korle-Bu! I was told some sad statistics about this place, but I think with our hard work, we can turn it around. Elder Orok and I are already showing that with what we've done so far.

Also! We're teaching another guy named Gabriel. He has co-workers who say that they used to attend the Church (I think they meant they investigated it for a while), but they liked drinking and committing adultery too much, so they left it (seriously; that was the reasons they gave; go figure). They told Gabriel that the Church was a cult, and that we drink blood, and that we aren't a real church, and all sorts of stuff. As such, he naturally got curious about the Church and decided to investigate it to find out the Truth! Haha; it was the most interesting street contact I think I've ever had. We taught him the first lesson - which he loved - and the next day, at work, he started telling his co-workers that they were wrong and confused, that he loved the Church, that he's meeting with the missionaries, and that he''ll be baptized on the 12 of March and become a Latter-Day Saint! He was sharing it with everyone at his work (he teaches JHS) and was incredibly excited. He then came to Church yesterday (met him last Wednesday) and he said he just loved everything, and that he's never felt so amazing in his life. It's great; I'm so glad he found Christ's Church! He's had a rough past (no need for details here) and he's finally finding the peace that Christ promised. I'm so happy for him! Haha.

Also, side-note: by this time, Greg should be back from his mission [Greg Scoville - cousin], I do believe. As such, I'd like to say "Akwaaba! Wy ah di aye!" Haha; means "Welcome", as in welcome home, and "you've done well!" Glad to hear that you enjoyed your two years serving the Lord, and it's always wonderful to have such a great example laid before me by my family members.

Internet is being shaky, so I'll end it here. I forgot to mention I gave a talk yesterday, but I'll update that next week (hopefully; haha). I know this Gospel is True, I know the Book of Mormon is the Word of God, and I know that if we Keep God's commandments, we will find true happiness and joy!

I love you all! This Gospel is True! The Work is Great!
