Monday, July 4, 2011 "New Sheriff In Town"

So, big thing this week: Pres. Smith went home! He finally got to leave Ghana, after serving here for 5 years straight. They were on a couples mission when he got called to be Mission President here. It was crazy, but they finally got to head home.

Now we have Pres. Judd. He's a nice guy. Psychology major or something, and a professor from BYU or something or another. Elder Berry has a book that he wrote; his mom sent it when she learned about Pres. Judd coming. It mentions on the back insert that he was called to be the Mission President for the Ghana Accra Mission. So, yea; we went from Multi-Business Manager to Professor - should be interesting.

We were talking about all the differences that can happen with the new Mission President. It was Pres. Smith who decided to shut down the Northern Zones or something and start doing the "English Only" stuff; they speak Twi and Fante and whatever in the Cape Coast mission. So, technically, we could start speaking Twi or something very soon, which would be awesome. In all honesty, I'm still hoping that Pres. will call me in, hand me a machete and a sleeping bag, and say "Good luck Elder!" and ship me way up north. That would be a dream come true! But alas, we shall see; haha.

Anyway, we got to do service this week! Serving people here is so hard here. They hate to have people help them. But we  were able to help a girl fetch water from some well, waaaay over to her house. It was pretty far, and it was a lot of water. Then we got to teach her and her uncle and friend, which was nice.

Sunday was kinda hard; only one investigator came to Church. The crazy thing is it was the one we weren't planning on. Funny how that normally tends to happen. His name was James Mills; he's the 2nd Councilor's (Bro. Sackey) cousin, or something. It was cool; he really enjoyed it. He came with Bro. Sackey 7 years ago or something when they first learned of the Church. Bro. Sackey pursued and got baptized, but James didn't. Now, hopefully, will be his time.

Interesting thing happened this week. We were told by Pres. Judd (as was everyone in the mission) to pray about our goals again and set them again this Sunday (yesterday). He said he wanted us to set what the Lord wanted, not what our logic could see happening. Elder Berry and I prayed, and were thinking of 5 on Saturday. Problem was, we didn't HAVE 5 (that we could 'bet' on, anyways). So we just wondered how that would work.

Well, later that day, we contacted a girl named Daisy. She's friends with Bro. Sackey, and had been given a copy of The Book of Mormon. She's been moving from one church to another, because none of them felt like the right one. She said she's prayed to know which one is True, but has yet to get an answer.

Can someone say, "James 1:5?" haha; it was great. What was really crazy was that we realized that THIS was our 5th one to set on! It was crazy. The way everything worked out like that; simply amazing. Elder Berry said it best, when I pointed this out to him: "...The Church is True."

Of that I also testify. This is Jesus Christ's Own True Church. It was founded by Jesus Christ when He first came, and has been re-established by His prophet, Joseph Smith, in these last days. I know this to be true. If you will but pray and ask God, He will surely reveal the Truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

Last thing: we saw an Obroni couple on Sunday who weren't from the Area Office. They were the Moons, from Centerville, UT. They had friends who served here (Elder and Sister Hale) and came to adopt a young 13 yr old boy named Elijah from Northern Region. By his surname, he might be Frafra, but they couldn't pronounce it right, so I don't really know. It was interesting; doesn't happen every week....

That's about it. I love you all! I know these things are true. Please read The Book of Mormon, every day, at least small. It will bless your life greater than anything else you can do. It will help you to gain a testimony, increase it, and then live it. I know this to be True.
